A Game of Pool
"Life is like a box of chocolate…" an unforgettable
phrase from Forrest Gump.
Our life could not be described any better than the phrase above. In fact, that
is how simple our life is. Everything in this world is simple; we are the one
who make it complex. You might ask why this guy thinks that way. To me, life is
so simple that I can use anything or any events to describe the reality of our
life. Forrest Gump has used a simple box of chocolate to represent it and today
I am going to use a pool game that I just played a couple hours ago.
There are many kinds of pool games that you can play: 8-ball, 9-ball, straight
or even others that I do not know how to name it. My objective of playing a
pool is to finish the game. Many would interpret it as to win a game. That is a
good example on how people make the game becomes so complicated. To me, winning
or losing is just an outcome of the game.
I, Wongso and Heri were playing pool from around 8pm to midnight today, or yday as it is
now 3:30AM on the next day. It is one
of my weekly routine activities to gather with my buddies. We always share the
bills equally at the end of our pool games.
Today, it was not so different too. We had our games, had our laugh and threw
few jokes, pointers. Sometimes we even tried to sabo each other during the
whole session. It was a relaxing gathering after a week of hard works for
everyone.
When we are on the table, everyone tries their best to put the target ball into
one of the 6 available holes. Sometimes you were in an impossible position to
pot the target ball or even just to hit the target ball, but most of the time
we miss cue our target completely. Sometimes you are on the roll, you can hit
ball after ball after ball until the last ball and you miss it. Sometimes you
just to pot one ball to end the game and sometimes you just keep trying and
trying but the ball just won’t go as per what you want. And sometimes you just
pot the ball without any intention or into a different hole. I had all those
things in every pool games that I played. You could say it is because I ain’t
an expert in this pool game. But, I believe even an expert will miss one or two
easy ball in one night as I saw many top players made silly mistakes too. The
only different is how you cope with your silly mistakes and make sure you won’t
do it again at least for tonight. To me, that is the different between an
expert and a novice player: stage of recovering.
Just like our life! We have our good times and bad times. We are lucky today
but bad luck on the following day. I believe everyone will try to be their best
when they do something. However, the outcomes may not equal to the efforts that
they have spent. Is it unfair? No! Because by the time you learn how to handle
or recover from the negative outcomes, it is the time where you gain back every
single effort that you have put in earlier. In a pool game, that is how you
become an expert in the game. That goes with our life too. Our objective in
this life is to keep living until the day when your time in this world is up. Made
no mistake is impossible, but try not to make the same mistake twice. Learn
from your mistake and you will be wiser. Throw some jokes or pointers in your
life so you can have some life and it will be a relaxing moment for you to live
on. I know we did that tonight. What a good pool game I just had today!
